In order to determine the trophic spectrum of the American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) in South America and Ecuador, we compiled a list with data of vertebrate species in its diet. In addition, we reported four specific observations of predation made in different ecosystems of Ecuador between 2007-2017. We identified 63 prey species, among which stands out the consumption of the class Aves, and the orders Rodentia, Passeriformes and Squamata. The list of vertebrate preys in Ecuador reaches 11 species with the 4 new records, which represents 17% of the total reported prey for South America. At the local level, Falco sparverius is considered a specialist species that depends on the availability of prey, both vertebrates and invertebrates.
