The Black-bellied Seedeater (Sporophila melanogaster) is a small passerine whose known distribution covers central and southeastern Brazil, in areas covered with grasslands. This species is considered endemic to this last country and it is listed as "Near Threatened” by the IUCN. The Southern Cone Mesopotamian Savanna of southern Misiones and northern Corrientes provinces is a well-preserved native grassland area that hosts a significant number of threatened birds, including the seedeaters of the genus Sporophila. In November 2017, we observed at least one individual of Black-bellied Seedeater at the Reserva Natural Urutaú, Candelaria depart- ment, Misiones province. This is the first known record of the species for Argentina. In this paper, we describe the said record and we discuss similarities of the detection area with the specie’s known breeding area in Brazil.
