Abstract

GUARESTI, Germán; DELLA LATTA, María Paula  and  RIVAS, Noemí. Terapia de bloqueo: una nueva modalidad para el tratamiento de infecciones relacionadas con catéteres implantables. Arch. argent. pediatr. [online]. 2004, vol.102, n.3, pp.211-213. ISSN 0325-0075.

Catheter-related bacteremia is a major complication in patients with central venous catheters. The conventional management usually implies the device removal and a prolonged antibiotic treatment. Antibiotic-lock therapy involves instilling a high concentration of antibiotic into the catheter lumen. We report a nine year-old patient with osteosarcoma and (implantable) catheter-related infection by Pantoea agglomerans, successfully treated with lock therapy at the Hospital de Niños "Dr. Ricardo Gutiérrez". The objective was to inform the pediatricians about the possibility of additional treatment (lock therapy) in children with catheter related infections.
