Resumen
SIMBRON, Alicia et al. Diagnóstico precoz de disfunción temporomandibular en niños prematuros. Arch. argent. pediatr. [online]. 2006, vol.104, n.4, pp.358-362. ISSN 0325-0075.
Continuous technological and scientific advances allow the survival of a higher number of premature new-borns with weight of 1,000 g or less, and a gestational age of 30 weeks or less. These infants are known as high risk newborns, since they have many chances of dying, as well as surviving with disabilities. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction may be present at early ages with joint changes, that impair suction and swallowing. Nearly all the studies performed in temporomandibular joint dysfunction included patients from all ages, from children to adults; however, information on high risk neonates is lacking. This clinical study included two preterm infants from neonatal intensive care units, with their early diagnosis and treatment.
