Abstract

BRUNETTO, Oscar; ARIAS CAU, Ana C.  and  INSUA, Claudia. Convulsiones por hipocalcemia en un paciente portador de deficiencia de vitamina D, secundaria a déficit materno. Arch. argent. pediatr. [online]. 2006, vol.104, n.5, pp.444-447. ISSN 0325-0075.

A patient is described with hypocalcemic seizures secondary to vitamin D deficiency. The patient was the youngest child of the family (twelve siblings). His mother was deficient in vitamin D, too. The treatment with calcium and vitamin D normalized the clinical and biochemical parameters. An early diagnosis by means of physical examination, laboratory and X ray not only is essential at the beginning of the treatment with vitamin D, but throughout the follow-up. Prevention is an important tool for avoiding the increasing number of cases of this pathology.

Keywords : Hypocalcemia; Maternal vitamin D deficit; Prevention.
