Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is the most common childhood chronic endocrine disease, with a very low incidence during the first months of life and a maximum peak coincident with pubertal development (10-15 years age group is the higher incidence group at debut). From a review of the scientific literature, our main objective is to study the psychosocial factors related to the adaptation of these pediatric patients and their families. Scientific research highlights the situational (stressful life events...), personal (additional physical illness, low self-esteem, emotional disturbances...) and interpersonal (family conflict, lack of family structure... ) risk factors and the protective factors (coping strategies, social support, communicative fluency...). We note the urgency of dealing with disturbances affecting these diabetic patients and their families, using the implementation of effective interventions that consider the main role of these psychosocial factors associated with the progression of this disease.
