Abstract

CARMONA RUIZ, María Antonia. El caballo andaluz y la frontera del reino de Granada. Cuad. hist. Esp. [online]. 2006, vol.80, pp.55-63. ISSN 0325-1195.

After the Castilian conquest of the Guadalquivir valley in the thirteenth century, the frontier between Andalusia and the kingdom of Granada was born. Thus, Andalusia took on a key role in the fight against the Nazarite kingdom, and a great offensive and defensive system was developed. In this context, the protection of horse breeding and the development of a popular cavalry were of great importance. This paper analyzes the fighting methods at the frontier and the general and local laws that tried to guarantee an adequate horse supply to ensure the defence of the frontier.

Keywords : Horse; Frontier of Granada; Andalusia; Laws.
