Resumen
OLIVERA SERRANO, César. Los señores y el Estado de Monterrey (siglos XIII-XVI). Cuad. hist. Esp. [online]. 2006, vol.80, pp. 147-170. ISSN 1850-2717.
This article studies the beginnings and development of the Monterrey (Galicia, Spain) village and fortress during the Middle Age, and pays special attention to its role as a defensive town, since it was both near the Portuguese border and on the road to Castile. It also analyzes the legal situation of the lands surrounding the village, as well as the foundation of the shire in the fourteenth century and the lords who successively ruled that land on behalf of the king. There is also a study of the quarrels that arose during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries between the different noble houses who wanted to rule the shire.
