Abstract
QUIROGA, Laura Cecilia. La maternidad en las obras alfonsíes: desde la concepción hasta el nacimiento de los hijos. Cuad. hist. Esp. [online]. 2007, vol.81, pp.39-66. ISSN 0325-1195.
In the thirteenth century Castile -like in the Medieval West- women were not isolated, and their behavior developed within precise social circumstances. Thus, society expected that those women who became mothers would do this in the context of marriage. This marital status introduced them within a new family group, their husbands' and gave them the possibility of extending their memory over time through the children they had and kept in this world. In this way women could increase both their lineage and expand their family relationships. These elements, among others, made motherhood to be considered, in fact, as one of the main duties that a woman could perform in society. Duty that will be analyzed by studying conception, pregnancy and birth of children.
