Abstract
GONZALEZ DE FAUVE, María Estela; LAS HERAS, Isabel J. and DE FORTEZA, Patricia. Espacios de poder femenino en la Castilla bajomedieval: El caso del linaje de los Castilla. Cuad. hist. Esp. [online]. 2008, vol.82, pp.99-122. ISSN 0325-1195.
In this article we intend to analyze the role played by some women of the Castilla lineage during the late Middle Ages. After Pedro the First's death and the imprisonment of his sons, some of the women of the family, protected by the queen Catalina of Lancaster, will be the ones who will achieve, in one first stage, the captive's survival and the establishment of their descendants in convents. During that same period, we find the laic women of the family consolidating their positions through beneficial marriages with members of the court's nobility. During a second stage, the outstanding alliances by marriage show and strengthen the importance obtained by the Castilla lineage, in which women play the role traditionally considered as theirs within the nobiliary society of that time.
