Abstract

VIDAL, Silvina Paula. Cervantes y el humanismo: del elogio a la parodia. Cuad. hist. Esp. [online]. 2008, vol.82, pp.165-190. ISSN 0325-1195.

This paper attempts to explain the dual use that Cervantes makes, taking distance from the European criticism to pedantism, of the word "humanist": positive-laudatory in Viaje del Parnaso (1614), negative-parodic in the Second part of Don Quijote (1615). Beyond the specific requirements of each text and the author's life, it discusses the convergence of different aspects that, according to us, were crucial to build Cervantes' original typology: (i) certain aesthetic and gnoseological concerns of the period, (ii) the establishment of a national literary canon (that is to say, a Spanish Parnassus) and (iii) the kind of insertion that the Italian model of humanist had in Spain during the XVIIth century.

Keywords : Parnassus; Don Quijote; Quijano; Parody; Praise; Humanist; Typology; Pedantism.
