In this paper I try to analyze the difficult and complex problem of sharing out the non entailed heritage belonging to Pedro Fernández de Velasco, "Mayordomo Mayor" of the two first kings of the Trastámara family, who had managed to build a substantial wealth out of the sheep business ("merindades") in the Province of Burgos. The disputes among his heirs were solved only after long quarrels in 1399.
