Abstract

HINOJOSA MONTALVO, José. La hora de lamuerte entre los conversos valencianos. Cuad. hist. Esp. [online]. 2009, vol.83, pp.81-105. ISSN 0325-1195.

Starting off from the analysis of wills of Valencian converts of the XVth century, we try to get close to the religious attitude of this group towards death and see if there were differentiating signs with relation to the old Christians. It has to be said that in the religious aspects, in the customs in funeral rites related to the death of these converts, no noticeable difference was appreciated with that of old Christians. They were presided by simplicity and discretion, reduced to the familiar surroundings or the brotherhood of Saint Cristopher, which united the community and served as guide of the cemetery. Precisely, being buried in that burial place was the principal characteristic which distinguished the converse from the old Christians, who did it in the parochial cemetery.
