Resumen
DIAGO HERNANDO, Máximo. El Contador Mayor Juan Velázquez de Cuéllar: ascenso y caída de un influyente cortesano en la Castilla de comienzos del siglo XVI. Cuad. hist. Esp. [online]. 2009, vol.83, pp.157-185. ISSN 0325-1195.
The author traces the biography of one of the most prominent members of the Castilian monarchy's bureaucratic machinery during the Catholic Monarchs' reign: the Chief Accountant Juan Velázquez de Cuéllar. He reports about the close relationship established by his parents with queen Isabel, the Catholic, and her mother, Isabel of Portugal, that favoured his later promotion. He analyses the political career of this personage in the Court of queen Isabel, the Catholic, since he arrived there as a young page until the moment of the queen´s decease. He gives information about the close relationship that he established with king Ferdinand, the Catholic, whom he supported after the death of his son-in-law, king Philip. He concludes with a reference to the process of loss of royal favour by this personage, when cardinal Cisneros was governor of the kingdom.
