Abstract

MASTANDREA, Carlos et al. Polyaromatic hidrocarbons: Helath risk and biomarkers. Acta bioquím. clín. latinoam. [online]. 2005, vol.39, n.1, pp.27-36. ISSN 0325-2957.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and their derivatives are ubiquitous in the environment and they are produced in several industrial and combustion proceses. Some of the compounds are carcinogens/mutagens and act as possible endocrine disruptors. Their determination in biological samples is an important step for exposure control. A review of the analytical methodologies used for the determination of PAHs and their metabolites in biological samples is presented.

Keywords : Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; Carcinogens; Mutagens; Endocrin disruptors; Hydroxy derivatives; Adducts; Biomarkers.
