Resumen

MOREYRA, Beatriz Inés. State the Civil Society in the Construction of the Social Arena in Córdoba (Argentina) in 1900-1930: Welfarism and Social Inequality . Folia [online]. 2018, n.33, pp.113-135. ISSN 0325-8238.

Since the last decade of the 20th century, there has been a growing concern among researchers of social sciences and humanities about the inquiries of the multiple inequalities in different past social realities. Such issue acquired more visibility in the social, political, scientific and state agendas. On the other hand, the transfer of social welfare to the civil society produced an associative explosion with its subsequent changes in intervention and affiliation approaches, and in the relations of entities with the State and society, which have emphasized the interest on the study of an old phenomenon, currently re-structured in a different way. Within this context, this paper is set in the academic revival of studies dedicated to the prolific heterogeneity of associative types. It analyses non-State welfare institutions as providers of minimum securities for the survival of the most vulnerable groups, and as spaces for the reproduction of social inequalities in Córdoba (Argentina) between 1900 and 1930, a period affected by the social imbalances that came along with the changes in the social aspect. The main idea of this article is to enquire into the manner in which institutional characteristics, the scarce assigned resources, and welfare practices, strategies, relations, and cultures of the actors involved, were factors that contributed to the reproduction of social inequality within institutions and, therefore, within the social fabric as a whole.

Palabras clave : Inequality; Welfarism; State; Society.
