During the first decades of the last century, the situation of children at risk in Córdoba (Argentina) was revealed as one of the most visible aspects of the social matters, a consequence of the accelerated process of modernization experienced by the city. In the context of the predominance of a liberal state and the social action of charities of the private sector, the Salesians played a leading role concerning the establishments dedicated to the care of the plebeian children. Inside their schools, those children who were influenced by experiences of deprivation and marginality were destined to fill the vacancies of an education oriented to train workers and artisans. In this manner, the liberal professions were destined to those who, with better fortune, were given the possibility of choosing another destination. Thus, this article represents a first approach in the historical understanding of the mechanisms of reproduction of social inequality, focusing on the inner organization of the Salesian assistance spaces. Within the incorporation of the children of the popular sectors to the workshops of the School of Arts and Crafts, lies the synthesis of the reproduction of an unequal social order which assigned roles and identities defined by class origin, according to the premise of including.
