Abstract

GAUZELLINO, P. M.; ZYSERMAN, F. I.  and  SANTOS, J. E.. A study of ultrasonic wave propagation in bones. Lat. Am. appl. res. [online]. 2008, vol.38, n.4, pp.361-368. ISSN 0327-0793.

In the present work the propagation of ultrasonic waves in human bones is modeled by Biot equations introducing in them viscoelasticity so as to take into account attenuation mechanisms; different models for the latter are introduced and compared. Also, Biot equations are numerically solved using two dimensional finite elements. How different porosities affect elastic moduli, phase velocities, viscodynamic and intrinsic attenuation is also studied.

Keywords : Cortical and Trabecular Bone; Low Frequency; Biot Theory; Finite Elements.
