Abstract

DELPY, María Silvia. "Seur, bele amie, tun conseil ai crei": El perfil de Guibourc en el Cantar de Guillermo. Temas Mediev. [online]. 2004, vol.12, pp.7-16. ISSN 0327-5094.

In French epic poetry, the "first generation" one in particular, female characters appear seldom. The Chanson de Guillaume is an exception to the rule. In this epic poem Guibourc's actions and her words are decisive in shaping the hero's course of action, which he frequently seems to be in doubt about. The unusual way in which Guibourc's personality emerges, helps to fill the vacant spaces left by the main character. This article attempts to establish to what extent the unusual figure of Guibourc responds to feudal patterns.

Keywords : French literature; epic; women; feudal world.
