The author of this article discusses the ideas of the anthropomorphic metaphor and of monarchy during the early Middle Ages from the fourth to the eighth century. Rather than a conclusive study of the subject under analysis, his approach is to examine contemporary sources in order to gain a new point of    departure for the questions dealing with Visigothic Spain. He tries to establish the degree of influence exerted by these concepts in outlining local political power and as a support for the monarchy during those centuries.
