Abstract

BAZAN, Iñaki. The Trial of Jato Tello (Vitoria 1485), was it a Juridical Mistake or was Penal Law Used to Serve the Anti-Jewish Policy?: erreur judiciaire ou emploi de la justice pénale dans la politique anti-juive?. Temas Mediev. [online]. 2005, vol.13, pp.29-51. ISSN 0327-5094.

The purpose of this article is to establish to what extent penal laws served as an instrument of the anti-Jewish policy followed by the Spanish government at the end of the fifteenth century, in other words, during the period which preceded the expulsion of the Jews. With this purpose in mind the author analyzes the criminal proceedings for blasphemy to which Jato Tello, a Jew from Vitoria in Alava, was submitted.

Keywords : Jews; blasphemy; penal justice; Middle Ages.
