NAVARRO, Andrea Mariana. Political Crisis and Different Kinds of Conflict in Andalusia during the Reign of Henry IV. Temas Mediev. [online]. 2005, vol.13, pp.79-103. ISSN 0327-5094.
During the reign of Henry IV the Andalusian towns resisted the advances of oligarchical and noble groups which thwarted the towns' right to jurisdiction. The towns also countered interferences by the king and his representatives which limited their freedom, with obedience and loyalty swaying between the king and the other candidates to the throne during the political crisis. At the same time they became involved in the dynastic-factional disputes by making use of dynastic problems in order to enlarge their patrimony and to strengthen their ideas of government. The analysis of the different kinds of conflicts registered in the contemporary sources, shows to what point the nobility and other power groups, either because they were linked by bonds of kinship or because of their conflicting interests, conditioned public order and were a determining factor in their relations with the King.
