This article studies the name suriani, given in the Chronica Pseudoisidoriana to Christian communities living in Syria around the year 1100. For us the date of the text is of prime importance, since it possibly is the first time the term suriani is mentioned. The article also tries to identify the suriani with the Syrian monophysites living to the north of Damascus, as well as the possible origin of this denomination within a scholarly debate which so far has not taken into account this historical source.
