The article is an approach to the understanding of poverty and the poor in medieval Castile by analyzing the references to needy people found in Castilian hagiographic texts  of the eleventh century. In this context, attention is centered on an analysis of the poor as they appear depicted in the Vita by attitudes of society towards them.
