This article analyses the legend of the Infantes de Lara where the female characters play a preeminent role which is especially apparent in the Spanish romances. In fact, the romances dealing on this subject evince in their formal construction a specific interpretation according to which Lambra and Sancha occupy central positions in the family crisis and in the preservation of the family lineage.
