Abstract

CORREIRA DE MELO NETO, Ivo. Peregrinos y santuarios en las cantigas de Santa María. Temas mediev. [online]. 2010, vol.18, pp.47-72. ISSN 0327-5094.

The medieval pilgrims have left behind a host of testimonies, such as travel reports, songs to meditate by or to entertain while on the road, love songs, etc. The pilgrims themselves generally tell about their personal impressions or their adventures. Instead, in the Cantigas de Santa María the pilgrims are simply characters and their trip serves as plot for the main story, namely the.miracle performed by de Virgin. Due to this the Cantigas offer a different picture of the act of pilgrimage. The Cantigas are stories of pilgrims whose reasons to leave on the trip are extremely varied. This article is devoted to analyze the different forms of pilgrimage as they appear in the Cantigas.

Keywords : Pilgrimage; Cantigas de Santa María; Alfonso the Wise.
