This article presents a comparative analysis of the maiden of Escalot episode in the thirteenth-century La Mort du roi Arthur and in two fourteenth-century English versions: the Stanzaic Morte Arthure and Le Morte d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. The episode is examined with a focus on the treatment accorded to the marvelous phenomenon along the processes of translation and adaptation. It is analyzed to what extent the structure that each narrator proposes for the episode determines the scope and meaning of the aforementioned marvelous phenomenon.
