MEDINA, Mirta A. et al. Inmunoglobulinas G de cadenas pesadas en la leche de los camélidos sudamericanos. Mastozool. neotrop. [online]. 2004, vol.11, n.1, pp.19-26. ISSN 0327-9383.

Camelids have two kinds of IgG. One is the conventional IgG, similar to that of the rest of mammals. The other is a special type of IgG lacking light chains (IgGH), which includes only two heavy chains, its molecular weight reaching 96 KDa approximately. Heavy-chain IgG was found in the blood of two Old World camelids species, and in South-American llamas. The aim of this work was to investigate which types of IgG are present in the milk of the four species of South American camelids. In order to achieve this investigation, milk samples of llama, vicuña, alpaca, and guanaco were studied through PAGE-SDS, immunoblotting and immunodotting assays. Results showed that all South American camelids have both immunoglobulins: the conventional IgG, and the heavy-chain IgG, the latter being present in a glycosylated form.

Palavras-chave : milk; heavy-chain IgG; camelids; tylopods; lactoproteins.
