In October 2002 we collected a specimen of the mountain paca (Cuniculus taczanowskii). This collection represents the first record of this species for Bolivia. In this note we describe the morphological characteristics that differentiate C. taczanowskii from C. paca, a more common species from the lowland forests of Bolivia, indicating observed differences with reference to those cited by previous authors. In addition, a brief habitat description is given for the collection site and a possible distribution for Bolivia is provided on the basis of personal communications from other investigators.
