Abstract

EZQUIAGA, María C.; LARESCHI, Marcela; ABBA, Agustín M.  and  NAVONE, Graciela T.. New records of fleas (Siphonaptera) parasites of dasipodids (Mammalia: Xenarthra) from northeastern Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Mastozool. neotrop. [online]. 2008, vol.15, n.2, pp.193-196. ISSN 0327-9383.

Studies on the parasite fleas of Argentinean xenarthrans are scarce. This report describes new species of fleas that parasitize armadillos of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Polygenis (Polygenis) platensis (Rhopalopsyllidae) was collected from Chaetophractus vellerosus, and Tunga penetrans (Tungidae) from Chaetophractus villosus and Dasypus hybridus. Polygenis (P.) platensis constitutes the first record for dasipodids. This study extends the distribution of T. penetrans and cites two new parasite-host associations.

Keywords : Chaetophractus vellerosus; Chaetophractus villosus; Dasypus hybridus; Polygenis; Tunga.
