Abstract
LOPONTE, Daniel and ACOSTA, Alejandro. New records of armadillos (Xenarthra: Dasypodidae) of Late Holocene in the Pampa Region, Argentina. Mastozool. neotrop. [online]. 2012, vol.19, n.2, pp.163-178. ISSN 0327-9383.
We present new assemblages of armadillos recovered in three archaeological sites located in the Rolling Pampa, corresponding to Late Holocene. The recognized taxa are Tolypeutes matacus, Zaedyus pichiy, Dasypus hybridus and Chaetophractus villosus. The identification of the first two species expands the known distribution of both taxa in the central grasslands of Argentina. We analyze the spatiotemporal range of these four species of armadillos in the north of the Pampas and their relative usefulness as paleoclimatic indicators.
