Abstract

PASIAN, Constanza; DI BLANCO, Yamil E; FONTANA, José L  and  FARINA, Néstor. Composición de mamíferos medianos y grandes de la reserva natural provincial Rincón de Santa María (Corrientes, Argentina): comparación con su zona de amortiguamiento y estado de conservación. Mastozool. neotrop. [online]. 2015, vol.22, n.1, pp.187-194. ISSN 0327-9383.

The aim of this paper is to evaluate and compare the medium and large mammals of the Santa María Reserve and its buffer zone. The records were obtained using direct sightings, searches of indirect evidence and interviews, showing rates of encounters with mammals and richness significantly higher in the Reserve. We recorded previously unreportes species, the persistence of species typical of gallery forests, and the possible local extinction of other species. The study area appears to contain a high diversity of medium and large mammals, suggesting that it should be considered as an important site for its study and conservation.

Keywords : Buffer zone; Greater naked-tailed armadillo; Natural Reserve Rincón de Santa María; Pantanal cat.
