¿Densidad, abundancia relativa u ocupación del pecarí de collar? : Optimizando el esfuerzo de muestreo. Mastozool. neotrop. [online]. 2016, vol.23, n.2, pp.543-550. ISSN 0327-9383.

We compared three methods for estimating collared peccary abundance: 1) density estimation by line transect; 2) relative abundance (RA) estimated using direct sightings, track counts along trails and track counts on plots; and 3) occupancy and detectability by repeated presence-absence measures. We found a positive correlation between the RA of tracks on plots and tracks along trails. Likewise, we found a positive correlation between RA from tracks on plots and RA from direct sightings. Tracks along trails had the highest detection probability. Occupancy models are superior to abundance indices because they take into account variation in detectability. We recommend the use of tracks along trails for those models.
