We describe and compare the echolocation calls in the search phase of six species of the family Embal­lonuridae: Saccopteryx bilineata, S. canescens, S. leptura, Peropteryx kappleri, P. macrotis and Rhynchonycteris naso, recorded in xerophilous savannah, northern Colombia. The calls were collected in the months of December 2012 (wet season), April and October 2013 (dry season), over five days in each visit, using a Pettersson D240X Electronik detector and a digital recorder; these were analyzed with SAS Lab Pro Avisoft software. The species were captured and recorded within a flight room, and calls were compared with records from wild animals. We analyzed 143 sound sequences. All species studied presented the highest energy in the second harmonic. S. bilineata y S. leptura alternated pulses of higher and lower frequency. P. macrotis echolocated at a higher frequency than did P. kappleri. Among the species studied, R. naso repeated its calls most frequently and also at the highest frequency than all other species recorded. This is the first research describing ultrasound calls produced by insectivorous bats from Colombian xerophilous savannah, one of the most threatened ecosystems in the Neotropics. In addition, it expands the description of the calls emitted by S. canescens in the search phase.
