Abstract

PEDRO, Villagra Diez. Diálogo, justicia y educación: La Paideia socrático-platónica frente a la educación sofista en el Gorgias. Synthesis (La Plata) [online]. 2002, vol.9, pp.21-37. ISSN 0328-1205.

The political changes in the middle of the fifth century demand of Athens an education that guarantees the insertion of the citizens into society as active members. In this context the Sophist education emerges: a man who has dedicated himself to politics must not only have the skills to govern but also increase his ability to give opportune and convincing speeches. The rhetoric becomes, thus, a cornerstone of this new pedagogic scene and Gorgias grows into the main representative of this activity. Plato criticizes the sophistic and proposes the "philosophical dialogue" as a higher stage from the traditional rhetoric.

Keywords : Socratic-Platonic Paideia; Sophist Education; Philosophical Dialogue; Rhetoric Gorgias.
