SARAVIA DE GROSSI, María Inés. El discurso de polinices (vv. 1284-1345): En Edipo en Colono de Sófocles. Synthesis (La Plata) [online]. 2002, vol.9, pp.53-69. ISSN 0328-1205.
Sophocles' Oedipus Coloneus appears as a strong argumentative play on account of its dialectical debates, which take place between Epeisodion II and IV. Being their dramatic function the delay of the destiny of Oedipus, they show, as well, a rich intertextual density. Easterling (1999: 95-107) affirms that there are three features that define Sophoclean style, they are: the opposit or contradictory tensions; second, the oscillation between the literal and the metaphorical meaning and; finally, the concentration obtained by the use of repetitions. In the present paper we analyze Polyneices' speech as an example of the mentioned characteristics, those that convert the intervention of the young warrior in the climax of the dialectical scenes, which constitutes the nucleus of the play. The confrontation produced by dissonant requests are moderated by Teseo's presence.
