Abstract

GONZALEZ DE TOBIA, Ana María. La párodos de Áyax: El otro ÁyaxAyax´ parodos: The other Ayax. Synthesis (La Plata) [online]. 2003, vol.10, pp.121-131. ISSN 0328-1205.

The parodos of Sophocles' Ajax has significant traits, both in its composition and in its dramatic content. While in its form it resembles Aeschylus, its content has Homeric resonance. Yet I submit that it is possible to analyze in this parodos the programatic elements of an "atypical victory ode," since it represents a misfortune as a victorious event. The approach I propose has further consequences in that this parodos foregrounds the absent main character, who in the preceding prologue has been presented in a most ominous light. The parodos of Ajax opens a new dramatic angle, from which "the other Ajax" may be considered in a dramatic perspective. To my view this points to a possible new interpretation of this play.

Keywords : Parodos; Atypical victory ode; Ayax; Sophocles.
