Abstract

SANTOS, Fernando Brandão Dos. Aquiles em Ifigênia em Áulis de Eurípides. Synthesis (La Plata) [online]. 2006, vol.13, pp.49-66. ISSN 0328-1205.

The present article is an introductory study of the Achilles' figure in Euripides' Iphigenia in Aulis, based on the analysis of his role in the play. At the end of the Fifth Century in Athens, Achilles is not anymore the brave hero found in Iliad. On the contrary, in this special tragedy in which Euripides constructs characters completely impregnated of philosophical values, as to say so, the Achilles on stage is a figure framed with an heroic aura, through the allusions of his mythical origins, taken from the Homeric world, but through his actions in scene, he shows himself much more reflexive than impulsive, contradicting the tradition of his name and actions.

Keywords : Euripides; Tragedy; Iphigenia; Acchilles.
