The complexity ofthe Pythian IV lies in the peculiarity of its frame in which Pin-darmanipulates the poetic material by going backwards and forwards, and thenarrative, almost Homeric, of the Argonauts epic. The proposal is bothcompositive and articulatory in a genre of conventional and fixed elements. Inthe poem, Pindar poses the possibility of constructing two formal spaces: anepic-.lyric vision and the fact reality of a celebration, both enhancing theVictory Ode.We propose to analyze the frame of the Pythian IV from the point of viewof a prophetic vision, which sustains a historical function of myth so that theframe results in a kind of compact epinikion, especially in its finalsection.
