In this paper we will try to see how the Homeric epic, the Iliad and the Odyssey, penetrate the plot of Oedipus Rex. We will analyse the beginning of the play and the speech of the Second Messenger as proems; at the core we will establish that the questioning, the dialogic reconstruction that is created between Episodes II and III, is equivalent to the Theichoscopia (Iliad 3: ll. 161-244). Then, we will associate the epitome or ἀνακεφαλαίωσις (23: ll. 310-343) in the Odyssey with the speech of Oedipus in the Eisodos (ll. 1369-1415)
