POSADAS, Paula  e  MORRONE, Juan J.. Historical biogeography of family Curculionidae (Coleoptera) on Subantarctic and Central Chilean subregions. Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent. [online]. 2003, vol.62, n.1-2, pp.75-84. ISSN 0373-5680.

The application of the historical biogeographic techniques of reconciled trees and Brooks parsimony analysis (BPA) to the distributional and phylogenetic information of 71 species of Curculionidae ranged in the Subantarctic and Central Chilean subregions results in a single general area cladogram: ((Central Chile (Maule, Valdivian Forest)) (Malvinas Islands (Magellanic Moorland, Magellanic Forest))). The application of dispersal-vicariance analysis (DIVA) to the same data set shows as the most frequent vicariant event the split of Islas Malvinas from the two southern Subantarctic provinces. In addition, DIVA results evidenced that the relationship among Maule, Valdivian Forest, and Central Chile did not arise from vicariance events (common history) but from dispersal events; as the 61% of the total of dispersal events implies these three areas. Furthermore, the most frequent dispersal events imply the Maule, in relation to Central Chile or the Valdivian Forest. Thus, the apparent complexity of Maule biogeographical realtionships could be related to the aforementioned dispersal events.
