Abstract

FLORES, Gustavo E.  and  GOMEZ, Rodrigo S.. Taxonomy and biogeography of four species of Psectrascelis (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) in the high mountains Precordillera and Cordillera de los Andes in Mendoza, Argentina. Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent. [online]. 2005, vol.64, n.3, pp.93-106. ISSN 0373-5680.

ABSTRACT. The neotropical genus Psectrascelis Solier (Pimeliinae: Nycteliini) comprises 75 species distributed from southern Peru to southern Argentina and Chile. In this contribution the four species of Psectrascelis that inhabit in northwestern of Mendoza province (Argentina), along the "Precordillera" and "Cordillera de los Andes", are revised: P. deplanata (Lacordaire, 1830), P. vestita (Lacordaire, 1830), P. mamillonea (Lacordaire, 1830), and P. semistrigosa Fairmaire, 1903. Redescriptions using new morphological data, photographs of habitus and pronota, and drawings of male genitalia are provided. This article includes accurate data records and the biogeographic provinces that these species inhabit. A discussion on the distribution patterns of the species of Psectrascelis and other epigeous arthropods inhabiting both mountain ranges "Precordillera" and "Cordillera de los Andes " is presented.
