Resumen
TELL, Verónica. Políticos en campaña, imágenes en acción: la disputa por los votos de Buenos Aires en 1877. Bol. Inst. Hist. Argent. Am. Dr. Emilio Ravignani [online]. 2012, n.35-36, pp.51-73. ISSN 0524-9767.
Antonio Pozzo's photographic montage is the starting point for our analysis on the use of photography by some politicians to foster their campaigns in the 1870s. Satirical paper El Mosquito made a parody out of this use, by highlighting the space occupied by those portraits in the political culture of the times. The portrait cabinet -an image easily duplicated in a relatively new and inexpensive format- was to complement the press -old body of propaganda- and reached civil society. This scene, which relates photography to other forms of visual representation, unveils the characteristics of both photographic and caricature images, as well as the power of images and politics.
