Abstract

LLAMOSAS, Gabriela. The construction of labor demands by Pinamar’s lifeguards: the wage-labor time relationship as central to trade union's dispute. Trab. soc. [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.34, pp.141-150. ISSN 1514-6871.

In this article I will analyze the tensions produced by the working conditions of lifeguards in Pinamar, a district of Buenos Aires province. For the last 20 years, workers have made, through the union that represents them -the Lifeguard Association of Pinamar- numerous demands related to their working conditions. Among these, I consider the wage-labor ration as central. It had an inflection point in 2015 with the sanction of a national and a provincial law, both of which regulate the provision of the lifeguard service and reduced the working day to six hours, among other things. I will focus on the impact that union action had on these changes, because this legislative modification is a piece of the complex web of disputes over the working conditions that the Lifeguard Association of Pinamar carries out in different times and spaces: amongst lifeguards, with the employers, with legislative advisors, deputies and representatives of municipal and provincial governments.
