Abstract
DURAN, Carlos AYALA and WAQUIL, Paulo DABDAB. Factors influencing the recommendation of use of creole maize seed: A study for Salvadorian extensionists. Trab. soc. [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.34, pp.211-220. ISSN 1514-6871.
The following work presents an exploratory article that analyses the perceptions of Salvadorian public extentionist’s related to creole (native) maize seed and the determinants to recommend the use of this input. To this end, qualitative and quantitative techniques were used. Qualitative analysis relied on semi open interviews and focus groups with extentionists. Quantitative analysis included descriptive and multivariate statistics. Regarding the latter, a logistic regression was employed identifying three statistically significant variables (p < 0.1) that influence public extentionist’s decision to recommend the use of creole maize seed. Thereof, perceptions regarding the resistance of maize to drought, knowledge regarding the production of maize with creole seed and a positive commercial assessment are identified as determinant factors to recommend the use of creole seed.
