Resumen

CORDERO, Romina Andrea. Accessibility to health services in rural areas. A look at community strategies for selfsufficiency in Pozo del Castaño, Santiago del Estero. Trab. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.37, pp.589-617.  Epub 01-Jul-2021. ISSN 1514-6871.

The article addresses the conditions of accessibility to health services in rural areas, taking as a case the town of Pozo del Castaño, Figueroa county, province of Santiago del Estero. We consider access as then counter between the rural population and the state agents. Due to the political-social and cultural characteristics in which these articulation stake place, we adopted a flexible conception of the health system where the actions that traditionally are circumscribed to the sphere of the Ministry of Health and its dependencies, require the involvement and action of other actors and social spaces. The following questions guided us: What alternatives do the in habitants of Pozo del Castaño have to solve health problems? What resources and actions does the health system provide to respond to the demand and make the service accessible? What is the relationship between community alternatives and accessibility to the health service? In contexts such as Pozo del Castaño, self-sufficient community strategies are key to understanding how, with and from what articulations, health problems are resolved, the demand for care is responded to, and care and follow-up of the population is organized.
