Resumen

HIRSCH, Dana. Basis for a materialist analysis of education: the unity of educational, economic and political transformations in capitalism. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.38, pp.215-239.  Epub 01-Ene-2022. ISSN 1514-6871.

The concern aboutchanges in the state policies that constitute educational systems within a capitalistic society from the perspective of critical political economy sets the origin of this article. The analysis does not focus on studies of specific policies or concrete national cases but on a general question regarding the driving force and the meaning of these changes within our form of social organization: do economic changes drive the political changes that transform the educational system? Or is it that political changes promote the economic changes that transform the educational system? In either case: what role does political conflict take in these movements? Is it possible to identify a general trend in these changes? In these pages we propose to address these questions, in counterpoint with diverse perspectives, with the purpose of specifying the foundations of a material analysis of schooling that serves to advance future research on the concrete development of the reforms of national educational systems based on a unitary analysis of the productive transformations -and the attributes necessary to participate in them- and of the political transformations -both in terms of the evolution of class struggles and the modalities taken on by the State-.
