In the article are being analysed the changes that modernisation has made in South Santa Fe family production since its beginning till the end of the nineties. The farmers had to incorporate capital in a constant and growing way. The technological change involved modifications in both area and tenure of land, the productive use of the soil and the necessity for labour. The family production shows the capacity for resistance to these changes but - at the same time - the process meant the disappearance of farms, productive concentration and social exclusion in the region.
