Abstract

The present study evaluates the evolution and damages caused for the large inundation at 2001, in the province of Buenos Aires, situated in the Argentina's main agricultural and cattle raising dry barren region. The government estimate that the economic loss for the agricultural sector sum to very high number: U$S 700 millions. But the serious situation began at the end of the previous year, when in November the soil were flooded. This mean that its capacity of absorption and storage reached its limit and the ground water was not much deep. In 2001 it was observed two cycles of inundations, one at the beginning and the other at the end of the year.
