This paper analyses the experiencies of a group of families of Puan and Adolfo Alsina counties, in SouthWest Buenos Aires, that in the 80s used to be family farmers and at some point of the three last decades decided to give up farming and became rentiers. Using a qualitative approach we study the reasons that led to that decision, taking into account both objetive and subjective aspects of the process. To do so, we analyse the factors involved in the trajectories of ceasing farmig and the effects of those paths on the identities and perspectives of the interviewees.
